Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large region that runs from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. At the beginning of her life, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden increase in her height made it difficult. In an article written by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. As I got bigger than my male counterparts, I gave up. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Brugel's case it was a suggestion from the drama instructor at her high school that led her in the right direction. She was encouraged to try out for roles in her school's production. She tried out and was eventually cast as the lead for the role in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000. For the past twenty years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have been numerous. The role of Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel, the only Canadian in the season 1 actors of the series as well as appearing only on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
